Cayenne peppers, scientifically known as Capsicum annuum, belong to the Solanaceae or nightshade plant family, which also includes tomatoes, eggplant, and potatoes.

Capsaicin, the compound that gives cayenne peppers their signature spicy flavour, is linked to some health benefits when consumed in supplement form.

Cayenne is known as a stimulant, it equalizes circulation, cholesterol, migraine, headaches, flu, coughs, arthritis and stimulates blood flow.  It strengthens the heart and arteries, capillaries and nerves.  It can be taken as a general tonic, especially circulatory and digestive system. It is found to be effective in insufficient peripheral circulation leading to cold hands and feet.

Cayenne peppers are found to be very high in vitamin C making it a great supplement for the chilly cold winter months.
