Elderberry is a berry that has been traditionally used for centuries for its medicinal properties. In recent years, research has shown that elderberry can offer a number of health benefits for individuals. Here are a few of the key benefits:

  1. Immune System Boost: Elderberry is rich in antioxidants and has been shown to stimulate the immune system, helping the body to fight off infections and illnesses.
  2. Anti-inflammatory Properties: Elderberry has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial for individuals suffering from conditions such as arthritis and other inflammatory conditions.
  3. Antiviral Properties: Elderberry has been found to be effective against various viruses, including the flu and herpes simplex virus. In one study, individuals taking elderberry showed a significant reduction in symptoms and a faster recovery time compared to those not taking elderberry.
  4. Cardiovascular Health: Elderberry has been found to have a positive impact on cardiovascular health by reducing blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels.
  5. Anti-Cancer Properties: Elderberry has been found to have anti-cancer properties, with laboratory studies suggesting that elderberry may help to prevent the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Elderberry is rich in vitamin C, it is diuretic and laxative too. It can be taken in a few different ways, including supplements, syrups, and teas. I enjoy making Elderberry as a syrup, it has a warm, spicy taste and mixes well with lemonade, delicious.

The stems of this tree are not edible and the berry is not to be eaten raw or dried but needs to be processed before consuming, usually 20 minutes of boiling should be fine.

Elderberry should not be taken while pregnant.
