The botanical name for Motherwort is Leonurus cardiaca, this tells us so much about this wonderful plant. Leonurus translates to lion and cardiaca translates to useful for the heart.

Motherwort has an affinity for the reproductive system, making it a good uterine tonic. It is widely used as a mild sedative for menstrual pain and cramping, helping to regulate the cycle.

For older ladies it is used for menopausal conditions that result in hot flushes, mood changes and sleep problems.

Even though the name refers to mothers, it is not to be used by pregnant women.

Motherwort can be used by men and women alike when it comes to strengthening the heart, especially when the heart is impacted by tension, stress and anxiety. These conditions may lead to hypertension and irregular heartbeat.
