St John’s Wort grows abundantly in many parts of the world, similar to the Dandelion flower, it is used to treat back pain. It’s beautiful yellow flower is harvested fresh and when extracted in oil or as a tincture, produces a wonderful, rich red colour.
St John’s Wort works mainly on nerves rather than muscles and can be used for spinal pain where there might be a disk issue, or neuralgia.
It can also be used topically to relieve burns, sunburn, bruises and sprains.
St John’s Wort taken as a tincture helps to increase metabolism of serotonin and melatonin, making it a great remedy for tension, anxiety, depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Use over a period of time for full effect.
DO NOT use St John’s Wort, even topically, in conjunction with pharmaceuticals since it can break them down in the liver making them less effective. Large amounts can cause photosensitivity.
