Walking is one of the simplest mechanisms of regulation within the body. However on observation very few get it right… Follow these check points and let me know how you score:

  1. You land on the heel on striding forward and push off the back foot big toe?
  2. You make limited sound with your feet (stomping, shuffling etc)?
  3. You have a purposeful swing of the arms?
  4. You looking forward with your head and eyes; not downwards?
  5. You feel comfortable (full stability and no pain / stiffness) to have a full stride length (more that 50cm)?
  6. You have no stiffness walking after you have been sitting for a prolonged period of time?
  7. Your gluteal and abdominal muscles engage while walking?
  8. You can breathe easy when walking at a strong pace?
  9. When walking in sand you can see the imprint of your foot showing a well defined arch?
  10. Your head is vertically above your pelvis; while the legs do the walking?
  11. There is an equal stride length & arm swing?
  12. You feel comfortable to use opposite arm swing to opposite leg stride (March on the spot to test)?
